This position works closely with the director of the Community Research Institute to manage the day to day operations of evaluation and community research work. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of the field of philanthropy, both on the funder and nonprofit sides, a solid knowledge of research design, and staff management experience. The person in this position will assist in supervising a talented staff of research and technology professionals. This person will help manage the center's workflow, scoping out new projects as they come in, assigning them to research teams with appropriate skills while maintaining equitable workloads, monitoring the quality of processes and deliverables, and assisting staff to increase their capacity in an effort to continually improve our end products. The person in this position will have opportunities to present and publish, will help develop and manage an overarching research agenda for CRI, but will not be responsible for managing an independent research load.

Required Qualifications:
• Masters in evaluation, nonprofit administration, social work, or related discipline
• Two or more years of experience in program evaluation, community-based evaluation, and applied research
• Previous experience in supervising staff or held team lead role for 2 years
• Experience in customer service or client-driven work
• Quantitative and qualitative research skills
• Strong knowledge of statistics and evaluation research methodology
• Ability to work collaboratively with community partners
• Proven ability to work across organizational lines and in a team-oriented setting
• Willingness to travel in Michigan and to locate in western Michigan
• Strong ability to analyze problems, identify, and remediate key issues
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex thoughts and ideas simply and effectively,

Preferred Qualifications:
• Ph.D.
• Experience coaching and developing staff
• Experience engaging co-workers and clients from diverse demographic and socioeconomic backgrounds
• Knowledge of data systems and data sharing
• Experience with GIS systems or spatial data,
• Experience with multi-stakeholder or collective impact style initiatives
• Experience working in the field of philanthropy or a good working knowledge of the sector

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Develop and implement a process for ensuring product (proposal, contract, methodology, analysis, report, and presentation) quality
• Provide leadership that will foster a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
• Seek out methods of increasing organizational efficiency
• Mentor staff to increase capacity and meet quality standards
• Help staff manage their workloads, assist in making judgments about priority and sequence of activities
• Respond to proposal requests and work with internal staff and community stakeholders to develop and plan program and/or community-based evaluation projects.
• Consult with nonprofit and philanthropic organizations around research/evaluation/design
• Work collaboratively with the technical and research team
• Forge partnerships with key internal and external constituencies
• Assist the director in developing learnings from various evaluation/community research projects that can inform the broader field
• Other duties as assigned

Salary: $60,000-$85,000
