Required Qualifications and Education:

  • Bachelor’s in relevant field (i.e. religious studies, theology/divinity, sociology, political science, intercultural communications, higher education).
  • Minimum two years of experience in developing and implementing interfaith dialogue and service programs and activities.
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse groups, on campus and in the community.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of intersectionality theory and knowledge of the foundations of social justice.
  • Demonstrated commitment working with underrepresented communities.
  • Some weekend hours and extended weekday hours are possible.

Preferred Qualifications and Education: 

  • Master’s degree (or working toward master’s degree) in relevant field.
  • Demonstrated experience in higher education.
  • Ability to supervise Graduate Assistants, Interns, and undergraduate student workers.
  • Experience in social justice education and/or community organizing.
  • Knowledge of theories on spiritual/faith development in college studies.

Responsibilities:
This position is divided between 80% on-campus engagement (Allendale), and 20% community/other campus engagement (surrounding colleges include Aquinas College, Calvin College, and Hope College). This person will oversee GVSU on-campus interfaith initiatives, as well as the Kaufman Interfaith Institute’s inter-collegiate interfaith initiatives with surrounding colleges/universities.

Coordinator, Campus Interfaith Resources
Campus Interfaith Resources Mission Statement: To support understanding and engagement of the diverse religious, spiritual and secular identities of our students, campus and community in order to develop integrated lives and promote social justice.
Responsibilities:

  • Direct Campus Interfaith Resources as the newest Social Justice Center on campus, utilizing an intersectional, justice-oriented, equity-minded framework for engaging religious identity and broader diversity work.
  • Facilitate programs and dialogues around topics concerning religious, spiritual, and secular identities and traditions of our student and campus community.
  • Organize civic engagement and service learning opportunities for students to connect to the local community.
  • Work closely with the Social Justice centers (Center for Women and Gender Equity, Disability Support Resources, LGBT Resource Center, and Office of Multicultural Affairs).
  • Collaborate with academic programs such as the Religious Studies Program, Intercultural Training Certificate, and more.
  • Serve as advisor to registered student organizations and coordinate the Faith-Based Advisors Council.
  • Advocate for inclusion and equity for all religious, spiritual and secular identities on campus, including advocating for resources as well as spaces designated for groups to be able to live out this aspect of their identities on campus comfortably.
  • Represent and promote Grand Valley State University in local and national networking spaces.
  • Partner with additional campus initiatives focusing on student success, development, and civic engagement, along with Student Life, Student Services, faculty programs, and more.
  • Engage in strategic planning, evaluation, and assessment for Campus Interfaith Resources programs and initiatives.
  • Write grant requests from relevant organizations/foundations, such as the Interfaith Youth Core.

Campus Engagement Manager, Kaufman Interfaith Institute
Kaufman Interfaith Institute Mission Statement: To promote interfaith understanding and respect in West Michigan.
Responsibilities:

  • Oversee youth leadership initiatives, including supervising Interfaith Interns, developing partnerships with colleges and universities, and coordinating local and national interfaith leadership training opportunities.
  • Mentor emerging student leaders in the multiple facets of interfaith cooperation, including personal identity development, how values can be put into action, and negotiating spaces of deep disagreement and exclusive truth claims.
  • Facilitate trainings and presentations on interfaith engagement and religious diversity in community organizations, houses of worship, and on campuses, both locally and nationally.

Salary:  Commensurate with experience

Campus: Allendale (80%) / Grand Rapids Area (20%)
