Position Title:  Adjunct Part-time Instructor for Outdoor Skills Class in the Department of Movement Science for the Fitness, Skill, and Activity (FIT) Program (semester by semester).

Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in addition to nationally recognized certification(s) (i.e. K-12 Physical Education Teacher, ACSM, NSCA-CSCS), experience in the content area, and/or three years minimum teaching relevant content.

Preferred Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology or related filed

Responsibilities – Essential Functions:  Teaching Outdoor Skills class in the FIT Program.  Course objectives include    ▪ Learn the fundamental aspects of planning trips for outdoor settings  ▪ Understand and recite the seven leave no trace ethics to camping/hiking   ▪ Demonstrate fire building techniques in an outdoor setting and understand  the difference between kindling, tinder, and fuel wood   ▪ Understand the basics of backpacking including packing a pack, cooking,  hiking, and equipment use  ▪ Introduce students to wilderness first aid principles and demonstrate the  ability to assess risk   ▪ Create a shelter for outdoor survival   ▪ Gain aerobic conditioning through snowshoeing and hiking  ▪ Demonstrate basic snowshoeing skills (winter only weather permitting)   ▪ Go on an overnight camping trip (optional) OR plan and present a  backpacking trip itinerary  

The Outdoor Skills Course is M/W 2:00 – 3:40 PM.

Salary:  Paid per credit.  This position does not include benefits.
