Summary: The Michigan Small Business Development Center (MI-SBDC) helps small businesses launch, grow, transition and innovate.   The MI-SBDC provides consulting, training and research for new ventures, existing small businesses and advanced technology companies.  The MI-SBDC is seeking two full-time Business Consultants for the West Michigan Regional Center. In order to be considered for both positions, please make sure to apply to both postings.

Required Qualifications and Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field
  • 2 years' relevant experience in a small business setting
  • Ability to work some evening and weekend hours
  • Ability to travel to and from various client businesses throughout the 13 counties in West Michigan
  • Strong presentation and training skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency with standard software programs including spreadsheet applications.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications and Education:

  • 3-5 years of Marketing or Accounting/Finance experienced preferred
  • Product commercialization experience preferred
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred

Responsibilities - Essential Functions:

  • Counsels one-to-one a client portfolio of at least 800 hours per year to individuals/groups seeking assistance in the formation or development of a small business venture.
  • Provides clients assistance in areas of: in-depth business plan development, strategic plan development, industry information, industry comparisons, cash flow projections, market research, referral to other resources throughout the state and local communities of the region.
  • Delivers MI-SBDC training programs to groups as appropriate.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of SBA loan products, other small businesses financing options, and available business support resources, including public, private, and nonprofit programs.

Responsibilities - Non-Essential Functions:

  • Facilitate student projects and/or internships
  • Write articles for SBDC newsletter
