Required Qualifications and Education: Candidates must have a minimum of a Master’s Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field, and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate education.
Responsibilities – Essential Functions: Responsibilities for this full-time, nine month, non-tenure track position include teaching lectures and labs in general chemistry and introductory biochemistry. Additional teaching assignments may be made depending on the individual’s expertise and interests and departmental needs. Affiliate faculty are also expected to engage in continuing education that enhances their role as chemistry educators. Appropriate service activities within the Department are encouraged. The Department values candidates who demonstrate an ability to work in a collaborative environment with a diverse population of colleagues and students. Affiliate faculty typically teach 12 to 15 contact hours per week in lecture, discussion, and lab settings. The initial appointment will be for one academic year on a full-time basis. This may be renewed once for an additional academic year. Thereafter, individuals may be appointed for three consecutive academic years.
Salary: Competitive and commensurate with qualifications.
Department/Division: The Chemistry Department is a diverse, research-active group with 31 tenure-track faculty and 9 affiliate faculty dedicated to excellence in undergraduate education. For more information see our Department website (www.gvsu.edu/chem).
Campus: The Chemistry Department is housed primarily at the Allendale Campus, although some teaching assignments may be at our nearby Grand Rapids Campus.
