Required Qualifications and Education: Applicants without a Ph.D. in Advertising, Public Relations, Communications, or a related field must possess a master’s degree in Advertising, Public Relations, Communications, or a related field and provide evidence of extensive relevant professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications and Education: A doctoral degree in Advertising, Public Relations, Communications or a related field is preferred, as is demonstrated excellence in teaching at the university level and professional practice. In addition to these qualifications, preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate active involvement in professional and/or academic associations.
Responsibilities – Essential Functions: Faculty members in the School of Communications at GVSU teach a 3/3 load, advise students, engage in a reasonable amount of scholarly and/or creative work, and provide service to the Advertising and Public Relations program, the School of Communications and the university by working on committees or taking on other administrative duties. The successful candidate will teach courses in advertising and/or public relations, with particular need for someone to teach research, fundamentals, technology, and/or writing.
Salary: Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications.
College/School/Program: The GVSU School of Communications (www.gvsu.edu/soc) and the Advertising and Public Relations program (www.gvsu,edu/soc/apr) place a premium on commitment to the integration of liberal and professional education. The School, located in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, offers a core of courses in communications, after which students select a major in Advertising/Public Relations, Communication Studies, Health Communication, or Multimedia Journalism. The School also offers a Masters in Communication. The Advertising and Public Relations program is an integrated program in which students take a 4-course emphasis in Advertising or Public Relations. The program has roughly 700 students, including 500 majors and 200 minors. Class sizes rarely exceed 30 students.
