Required Qualifications and Education:
Hold an earned doctorate (Ph.D. or DSW) or be within 18 months of completing an earned doctorate in social work or a closely related discipline at the time of hire. Individuals without a doctoral degree will be hired at the Instructor level, and must complete their successful dissertation defense within 18 months of beginning employment.
Applicants must also hold an MSW degree from a CSWE-accredited program and have at least two years of full-time post-MSW practice experience as a social worker.
Collegiate teaching experience
Experience and/or interest in teaching across the graduate and undergraduate social work curricula and expertise in macro and mezzo practice
Demonstrated ability to engage in professional research
Commitment to holistic student development through participation in student recruitment, professional advising and other high-impact learning experiences
Dedication to diversity, human rights and social justice
Commitment to collaboration and collegiality with other members of the GVSU School of Social Work and the broader GVSU community
Responsibilities – Essential Functions
Successful applicants will teach across the curricula of the MSW and BSW programs, and be responsible for integrating their knowledge of social welfare policy, macro practice, cultural competence, social work research and school social work into both. They are expected to have a documented record of scholarly activities, a well-defined scholarly agenda and a consistent record of professional and community service.
Successful applicants will teach a full load of nine credits each semester and engage in an area of professional focus for the equivalent of three credit hours each semester during the academic year. Teaching responsibilities may be assigned at the Grand Rapids Pew and Allendale campuses, or at one of several other program locations throughout Michigan.
The individuals hired will also serve in an advisory capacity to graduate and undergraduate students, engage in scholarly and service activities, and perform other academic duties.
Salary: Salaries beginning at $60,000 are commensurate with experience
