Required Qualifications and Education: Evidence of a commitment to teaching excellence is required. M.S. or Ph.D. in Statistics or related field with at least 18 graduate hours in statistics (completed by June of 2019).

Preferred Qualifications and Education: Preferred candidates will have teaching experience and will have a demonstrated an interest in methods of instruction that utilize technology. Preferred candidates will have programming experience with SAS or R.

Responsibilities – Essential Functions: Duties include teaching 5 three-hour courses per semester.  Employment begins August 2019. Affiliate faculty are initially appointed to a one academic-year contract, this contract can be renewed once, and then affiliate faculty can be appointed to three-year contracts.

Salary:  Competitive and commensurate with qualifications.

Campus: The hired affiliate faculty will have an office in Allendale, but may be required to teach at any university campus location.

Department:  The Department of Statistics at Grand Valley State University places an emphasis on teaching excellence and active scholarship. Our department offers a Master’s degree in Biostatistics, an undergraduate major in Statistics (with a potential emphasis in Actuarial Science), and minors in Mathematical Statistics and Applied Statistics. We jointly offer a Master’s degree in Data Science and Analytics and a minor in Data Science with the School of Computing Science and Information Systems. In addition, our department offers a variety of statistics courses in support of the university’s many other graduate programs. Currently our department has approximately 40 graduate students, 130 majors and 150 minors. The department and university are strongly committed to using technology in teaching at all levels. GVSU maintains a robust computer infrastructure across multiple platforms. The student and faculty networks at GVSU maintain the current versions of SAS, SPSS, R, and JMP.
