Grand Valley State University’s Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) is seeking a tenure-track faculty member, effective August of 2019, with management experience in hospitality operations and financial decision making. The position will be at the rank of Assistant Professor. Responsibilities include teaching and mentoring undergraduate students, developing a stream of applied research, fulfilling service responsibilities of GVSU, and establishing professional relationships with companies and organizations in the hospitality industry. This is a 9-month tenure-track academic appointment.
Required Qualifications and Education:
A terminal degree in hospitality or a closely related field (ABD will be considered). Substantial management level experience in the hospitality industry with expertise in the area of operations and financial decision making, evidence of effective and innovative college-level teaching, and exhibited potential for scholarship.
Extensive knowledge and practical experience in the area of food and beverage management including but not limited to food production management, beverage management, food safety, and restaurant related technology and systems.
About Our Program
The HTM department, established in 1977, currently enrolls over 400 undergraduate students (including those in our unique Adventure Tourism Management minor) and employs 13 full time and a number of part-time faculty. This position will provide exceptional opportunities to teach a variety of courses, conduct applied research, and lead industry related projects to help further the reputation of the program as a premium provider of quality HTM education. The departmental offices are in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, within walking distance of a vibrant hospitality community, including luxury and boutique hotels, award-winning convention space, a variety of food and beverage experiences at more than 40 restaurants and bars, and access to Experience Grand Rapids, the region’s highly effective destination marketing organization.
