Summary: Evaluates and administers both the bargaining and non-bargaining Compensation functions for the University, including participating in the design of pay plans, salary analyses, and job evaluations. Analyzes and evaluates all related Compensation policies, projects, and processes to ensure effectiveness, efficiency, and continuous improvement. This position is also responsible for ensuring that university compensation programs are consistently administered in compliance with internal policies and government regulations.

Essential Functions:

  • Administers all bargaining and non-bargaining compensation programs
  • Manages salary database system
  • Updates market data and database annually
  • Conducts job evaluations and reclassifications and recommends appropriate salary and/or classification; Conducts exemption testing and determines exemption status for jobs
  • Prepares compensation analyses for salary offers, promotions, equity increases and market adjustments
  • Manages the annual salary increase process which includes interaction with executive officers/deans/appointing officers. 
  • Monitors internal salary equity to maintain integrity and consistency
  • Provides guidance and counsel regarding pay decisions, compensation practices, policies, and procedures
  • Develops communication materials for compensation programs and services
  • Completes market studies and salary surveys
  • Analyzes and interprets benchmarking data to evaluate competitiveness of salaries
  • Administers annual salary increase process and recommend improvements as necessary
  • Evaluates and classifies position descriptions to determine appropriate compensation
  • Provides consultation and recommendations to deans/appointing officer regarding compensation decisions
  • Ensures compliance of compensation policies while keeping abreast of the evolving regulatory environment and emerging trends
  • Supports the Director of Total Rewards with special projects and strategy of the compensation function of the University
  • Serves as Compensation's lead and primary liaison for cross functional projects
  • Maintains awareness of federal, state and local compensation laws and regulations to ensure compliance
  • Recommends, develops, reviews, and implements new policies, programs, processes, and procedures, as necessary
  • Proactively monitors FLSA changes and administers and communicates updates as appropriate
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or related field
  • Minimum of five years of demonstrated experience specializing in compensation administration, including analysis, compliance, and project management
  • Demonstrated experience in Human Resources
  • Demonstrated systems implementation and process improvement experience
  • Demonstrated experience in a role requiring diverse problem-solving methods in a variety of situations
  • Possess working knowledge of compensation concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to use in varied situations depending on the departmental focus
  • Possess excellent analytical, financial and decision-making skills
  • Possess excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess strong customer service, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Possess strong technology acumen
  • Intermediate-level proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Possess knowledge of federal and state wage and hour laws
  • Possess high degree of accountability, logic aptitude, and follow-up skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Human Resources, Public Administration or Business Administration
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP)
  • Demonstrated experience working with collective bargaining agreements as it correlates with compensation
  • Knowledge and understanding of HR processes; experience in higher education and HRIS systems (e.g. Ellucian Banner) is preferred.
  • Ability to effectively complete work assignments independently
  • Ability to multi-task while maintaining accuracy, timeliness and effectiveness
  • Ability and willingness to take initiative and ownership, prioritize and perform proactively
  • Proven ability to work independently, in a team environment, and with employees of all levels throughout the organization
