Summary: The School of Engineering within Grand Valley State University’s Seymour and Esther Padnos College of Engineering and Computing invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. This position is within the Electrical and Computer engineering program and involves teaching in support of our BSE and MSE programs at all levels from first-year through Master’s courses, curriculum and course development, professional service, and professional development activities including scholarship. Of particular interest is teaching and industrial experience as well as experience related to recruiting and supervising industrial grade projects. This position will support the continued growth of GVSU’s Electrical and Computer Engineering Programs. The start date for this position is fall 2020.

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Programs offer ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) degrees as well as a Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) degree. The BSE program includes mandatory co-operative education and an extensive experiential learning component. The MSE program emphasizes professional practice as well as applied research. Partly sponsored by local industry, our programs yield industry prepared or graduate school-ready engineering graduates in support of diversified regional industries and research institutions.

Required Qualifications and Education: Applicants must have a doctorate degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or a closely related field. Applicants must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. They must be committed to the highest quality of laboratory and project-based teaching along with scholarly and professional development.

Preferred Qualifications and Education: Preference will be given to: Applicants with teaching and industrial experience, along with experience related to recruiting and managing industrial grade projects. Applicants with an ability to participate in and capitalize upon existing collaborations with our West Michigan industrial partners and with a history of external funding. Applicants with expertise in all areas of electrical and computer engineering including, but not limited to, electronic hardware, embedded systems, electromagnetics, semiconductors, control systems, wireless communications, power electronics, or robotics are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities – Essential Functions: This position involves teaching in our undergraduate and graduate engineering programs, service to the unit, college, university, and community, and professional development (including scholarship). Curriculum and course development is also expected. This applicant will support our co-op-education and project-based curriculum as well as industrial collaborations.
