Summary: The Executive Director (ED) of the Bonnie Wesorick Center for Healthcare Transformation will be a creative leader who envisions innovation for the Center, using experience, resourcefulness and ingenuity to achieve the Center’s goals. The ED must be able to show a personal connection to the mission and distinguish the Center by worthy and relevant outcomes, including sustainable community partnerships.

The ED will establish a reputation for scholarly excellence; demonstrate a commitment to evidence-based teaching and practice; promote interprofessional education and practice; support the advancement of academic and practice partnerships; and foster meaningful community engagement initiatives.  The successful candidate will be able to develop, execute, and evaluate the Center’s strategic plan, projects, and tactics, including a plan for marketing, increasing philanthropic support, and seeking funding from diverse sources.  Additional responsibilities for the position include mentorship of faculty and students and assistance in scholarly writing.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide creative leadership and operational oversight for the Center’s strategic plan and special projects.
  • Participate in the identification, development, and implementation of innovative initiatives and programs of study relevant to healthcare priorities and healthy communities.
  • Contribute to developing academic/practice partnerships within KCON and GVSU, taking initiative to engage community members and university representatives to further the Center’s goals and objectives.
  • Partner with practice to build strong relationships and advance co-design and reciprocity assocated with education of nursing students. 
  • Lead interprofessional initiatives to strengthen relationships and partnerships.
  • Lead, plan, implement, and evaluate events/programs sponsored by the Wesorick Center that contribute to the mission and vision of the Center.
  • Provide direction and leadership to the Wesorick Center’s Advisory Board.
  • Identify and advance opportunities for revenue streams that will ensure the financial sustainability of the Center, including development of a business plan, funding proposals, and partnerships between businesses, philanthropies, or external entities to support the work of the Center.
  • Collaborate with University Development on communication and promotion of the center; and raising funds for the Center.
  • Contribute to the teaching mission within the Kirkhof College of Nursing in area of expertise (up to 25% of workload or 7 credits/year).

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in nursing or related discipline from an accredited institution
  • Must be a Registered Nurse and eligible for RN licensure in Michigan
  • A scholar with a health-related background
  • A personal record of creative leadership and successful innovation
  • Experience with procurement of financial support, to include grant writing
  • Organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Must be visionary and results oriented
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including public speaking and the ability to share the message of the Center to diverse populations
  • Ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships with individuals and organizations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in higher education.
  • Background in health, health policy and/or health care systems.
  • Experience that has afforded opportunity to understand entrepreneurial skills, business model design, and design thinking
