Grand Valley State University seeks a visionary, accomplished and transformational Vice President for Information Technology (VP IT) and Chief Digital Officer (CDO). This newly created position will provide the innovative vision, strategy, management and accountability for information and digital technology in close collaboration across the institution. The selected leader will understand the critical role of information technology in higher education and learner success, as well as be able to put a roadmap in place to enact the strategy. This will entail strong strategic planning capability, proven technical acumen, excellent communication skills, and the ability to partner with the faculty, students, staff and administrators to ensure information technology efforts align with campus-wide goals.
Reporting to the president and serving on the president’s senior leadership team, the VP IT and CDO will be a key leader as the university embarks on a strategy to support lifelong learning of students beyond the traditional 18 to 22-year-old college student, including adult learners, advanced degrees, certifications, badging, and continuing learning in an online environment. The new VP IT and CDO will drive the current operational effectiveness and efficiency of the university through the use of technology, as well as create and implement the solutions to meet the future demands of the faculty and student body in an online learning environment.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- 10+ years of IT experience as a CIO/CDO or a strong IT leader in a similarly sized organization.
- Experience in higher education or other relevant ancillary industries.
- Experience driving a transformation to a digitally enabled environment.
- Experience leading strategy and implementation for enhanced enterprise and student/consumer-facing technology platforms.
- Experience leading teams of 50+ individuals.
- A bachelor's degree in computer science, business or related field (an advanced degree would enhance the qualifications but is not required).
