Required Qualifications and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Leadership experience with increasing levels of responsibility
  • Experience in developing budgets and strategic plans
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel both within Michigan and nationally
  • Demonstrated experience developing relationships across diverse communities

Preferred Qualifications and Education: 

  • Master of Public Administration or Master of Business Administration
  • 5+ years of senior leadership and management experience
  • Knowledge of working in both university and/or government environments
  • Demonstrated experience with federal and state grants applications and grant writing
  • Demonstrated desire to engage in community development
  • Demonstrated skills in establishing and maintaining effective support and working

Responsibilities – Essential Functions: 

  • Stakeholder relationship management & alignment
    • Ensure SBDC strategies align with stakeholder needs
    • Oversee diverse stakeholder needs including federal, state, and local entities; industry partners; associations; and entrepreneurial service organizations to ensure Michigan SBDC is a state and national leader in entrepreneurial and business development
  • Promote/Strengthen/Support a vibrant culture focused on helping small businesses launch, grow, transition, and innovate
  • Responsible for program operations
    • Analyses customer trends, competitive services, and national issues that could potentially impact small business and organizational success
    • Shared responsibility for compliance, programmatic requirements, legal, and accreditation
    • Manage client confidentiality policy and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) concerns
    • Performs needs assessments to ensure our programing meets customer’s needs
    •  Supports State Director and Finance Manager with the annual budgeting process
  • Coordination of performance reports to stakeholders
  • Fiscal responsibility to SBDC including sponsorships and grant applications
    • Oversees grant applications to acquire new funding aligned with organizational mission and strategies
  • Marketing, productivity tools, and training strategy & execution 
    • Collaborate with subject matter experts for the implementation of best practices
    • Manages marketing and communications team members to develop a brand strategy, marketing materials and product information to support effective field operations
