The Department of Movement Science at Grand Valley State University (GVSU) invites applicants for a full-time affiliate faculty member (non-tenure line) in the Sport Management program beginning on August 6, 2021.
We seek a colleague who is committed to undergraduate teaching excellence and mentoring, is able to teach throughout the curriculum, understands emerging trends in the areas of sport management, and is committed to diversity, inclusion, and equity efforts in teaching and practice.
• A master’s degree in Sport Management or a closely related field;
• Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and a willingness to adapt teaching to the rapidly changing sport management landscape;
• Experience and/or willingness to teach high quality and engaging online courses;
• Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity;
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, such as the ability to interact with others with respect and empathy;
• Confident humility – the ability to simultaneously acknowledge one’s own and others’ expertise and value.
• Minimum of 2 years of undergraduate teaching experience in sport management or related field with an ability to teach in sport management content courses that include two or more of the following areas: sport revenue strategies; sport law & ethics; finance & budgeting; sport analytics; psycho-social issues in sport
• Experience supervising student interns and supporting students in professional development activities
• Experience as a sport practitioner
• Evidence of a commitment to quality teaching and mentoring, and the use of pedagogical methods that enable students across racial, ethnic, and socio-economic groups to reach their maximum potential
• Demonstrated ability to foster relationships and develop community partnerships
Responsibilities- Essential Functions:
• 12-15 credit workload per semester in the Sport Management program/Movement Science Department
• Summer fieldwork supervision (remuneration offered)
• Provide mentorship and support professional development opportunities for Sport Management students
• Provide vision and expertise in sport management program development
• Develop and maintain communication with community partners and expand local and regional connections and field experience sites

Department/Division: The Movement Science Department consists of four programs, Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Health and Physical Education, and Sport Management, and aspires to be a center of excellence in the diverse study of sport and human movement.
