Summary:   The Department of Area and Global Studies in the Brooks College of Interdisciplinary Studies, Grand Valley State University (GVSU) is seeking applications for a full-time, one-year visiting faculty position to begin in August 2021.

Required Qualifications and Education:

  • Demonstrated teaching expertise in African and African American Studies
  • Strong potential for teaching excellence
  • PhD or ABD (with an expected graduation date in 2021) in any fields with a graduate certificate or coursework in African and/or African American studies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to teach in both face-to-face and online environments
  • Ability to teach at least two of the following courses: AAA 201 Introduction to African American Studies; AAA 200 Understanding Africa; and AAA 302 African Diaspora
  • Demonstrated commitment to experiential and high-impact teaching practices.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and supporting diversity among students, faculty, and communities
  • Demonstrated commitment to service-learning and social justice
  • Demonstrated research experience and/or academic training in an interdisciplinary field of study
  • Demonstrated interdisciplinarity and intersectional approaches in their research and teaching
  • Ability to contribute to an additional interdisciplinary program within the college, particularly: Area and Global Studies; Digital Studies; Environmental and Sustainability Studies; and Integrative Studies

Salary: $46,000
