SUMMARY

This position will work with a small group of para-professional staff and students to support and maintain in-house audio-visual equipment. This includes operating, maintaining, distributing, installing, configuring, repairing, and upgrading various electronic products while ensuring optimal performance. This person will also troubleshoot problem areas in a timely and accurate fashion and provide end-user training and assistance.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  1. Leads and coordinates audio-visual projects with University stakeholders on the design and installation of University classrooms, labs, conference rooms, and event spaces. 
  2. Prepares and maintains project documentation, including budgets, specifications, bid packages, and technical diagrams/layouts. 
  3. Manages contractors and vendor support for University classrooms, lab, conference, and event spaces. 
  4. Leads a team of student employees who install, configure, operate, disassemble, and troubleshoot audio-visual equipment, including preventative maintenance to identify trends proactively. 
  5. Maintains accurate software records and appropriate hardware settings, including equipment, locations, features, drawings of telecommunication systems, and system cable records. 
  6. Manages University audio-visual equipment inventory, amortization, and upgrade schedules, systematically checking and maintaining installed equipment to ensure proper operation. 
  7. Provides support and recommendations on in-person, remote, hybrid, and distance learning systems to facilitate successful educational environments in various contexts. 
  8. Resolves escalated AV complex issues by validating and coordinating work. Recommends process improvements and serves as a knowledge resource.
  9. Collaborates with other areas of IT to diagnose and resolve technical issues. 
  10. Provides technical assistance to the community and documents information and work performed in the IT Services Management system. 
  11. Provides IT Services, call center, and ticketing support. 
  12. Administers and maintains applications and servers needed for support of various audio-visual hardware and software platforms, including but not limited to Extron server and Zoom Rooms. 
  13. Assembles, installs and maintains AV-related network components and communications equipment. 
  14. Researches and identifies new technologies to evaluate to meet the University’s educational and office needs leading to implementation while maintaining an appropriate budget. 
  15. Provides technical consultations to clients to identify their needs and budget to offer appropriate technologies. 
  16. Performs other duties as required/assigned by manager.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 5+ years of equivalent training or experience.
  • Previous supervisory experience, preferred 
  • Minimum four years of related experience in audio-visual equipment and peripheral repairs, installation, and troubleshooting in a business or education setting. 
  • Ability to attain and maintain appropriate training and certifications for supported hardware and software platforms. Examples include Certified Technology Specialist (CTS), Extron Certifications including Extron Certified Professional, Extron Control Specialist, and Extron XTP Systems Design Engineer
  • Experience leading and managing projects. 
  • Experience working with PC and Mac operating systems, hardware, software, and peripherals. 
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Working knowledge of electronics and professional electronic testing equipment, including the ability to read and interpret complex electronic equipment schematics. 
  • CTS or equivalent certification and experience. CTS-D and/or CTS-I or demonstrated equivalent combination of training and experience preferred. 
  • Experience in PC, printer, and related equipment diagnostics and repairs preferred. 
  • Experience in running and terminating data and fiber preferred. 
  • Experience working with contractors and vendors to facilitate major projects preferred. 
  • Experience maintaining a project budget and completing projects within budgetary requirements preferred. 
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal office environment. Some travel will be required.
