The Department of Geography and Sustainable Planning invites applications for a one-year Visitor position in regional and cultural geography. The successful applicant may be required to teach courses in physical and regional geography, or a course in their specific area of topical expertise. Applicants must be committed to undergraduate education and demonstrate excellence in teaching. Contingent on performance and academic needs, position may be renewed. We are particularly interested in receiving applications from women and candidates from underrepresented groups, and from candidates who have interest and/or experience in working with diverse student and community populations. The Department offers B.A. and B.S undergraduate degrees with emphases in Environment and Global Development, Climate Change Mitigation, Adaptation and Resiliency Planning, Geospatial Technology, and Urban and Regional Planning.
Required Qualifications and Education:
- Ph.D. in geography with expertise in human and regional geography is preferred but not required.
- GIS skills are not required but may be considered for potential teaching of GIS courses.
- Strong classroom communication and interpersonal skills, such as the ability to interact with others with respect and empathy, and a commitment to undergraduate teaching in a university that emphasizes a high-quality liberal arts education. Preferred Qualifications and Education:
- Ph.D. in geography with expertise in human and regional geography.
- GIS skills are considered a plus for potential teaching of GIS courses.
- Research or other experiences in developing countries or countries other than the United States.
- The successful applicant will teach a selection of courses in global, regional and cultural geography in the department. The normal course load for Visitor appointments is 4 x 4.
- Summer teaching at supplementary salary is a possibility.

Department/College: The Geography and Sustainable Planning Department currently consists of ten faculty members and teaches a wide variety of courses. The Department offers B.A. and B.S undergraduate degrees with emphases in Environment and Global Development, Climate Change Mitigation, Adaptation and Resiliency Planning, Geospatial Technology, and Urban and Regional Planning. Our research interests are varied and include climate change research, remote sensing, natural resource use and urban transportation and change. Our students are active with internships, research projects, community engagement, and student geography and planning club activities. We offer a dynamic and innovative academic environment that challenges both students and faculty to learn and open themselves to new ideas in an integrative way.
