Emerging Technology Research Analyst

SUMMARY

The analyst will assist in facilitating the discovery, exploration, identification, training, assessment, and evaluation of a portfolio of solutions, services, and resources that are purposefully designed to further academic and research initiatives, facilitate quality digital education, enhance the learner experience, build the next generation of teaching and learning spaces, and support the University’s mission and strategic priorities.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  1. Partner with leadership to establish an inspiring vision and strategic direction for Information Technology’s portfolio of solutions, services, and resources to ensure they are future focused, drive digital transformation, and align with the University’s mission and strategic priorities.
  2. Research, monitor, and analyze market trends, industry best practices, technologies, emerging pedagogical methodologies, custom application development opportunities, and University business processes and initiatives while collaborating to recommend innovative solutions, services, and resources.
  3. Manage communication, schedule demonstrations, and coordinate product evaluations with vendors.
  4. In collaboration with the IT Innovation and Research team, identify, implement, manage, coordinate, and analyze emerging technology pilots, beta tests, and proof of concept evaluations that accelerate and drive innovation to scale, build capacity, and contribute to student success.
  5. Assist in facilitating the education, training, and support for faculty, students, staff, researchers, and key stakeholders in the review, prototyping, and evaluation of emerging technologies.
  6. Facilitate emerging technology evaluations using quality and innovation analyzation rubrics, documenting and sharing specification details, reports, and findings along with executive summaries inclusive of recommendations.
  7. Partner to provide student assistant management and oversight to build capacity in technology research initiatives.
  8. Assist in utilizing video, imagery, websites, social media, and storytelling to elevate, communicate, and create awareness of the projects, partnerships, initiatives, or events facilitated by the IT Innovation and Research team.
  9. Collaborate to establish, manage, and coordinate educational programming, events, and meet ups etc., organized out of the IT Innovation and Research team, X>STUDIO, and Technology Showcase.
  10. Engage in IT strategic planning and policy development where appropriate.
  11. Prepare clear and concise reports, correspondence, policies, procedures, and other written materials.
  12. Comply with legal and ethical requirements, including confidentiality, privacy, and non-disclosure agreements regarding research.
  13. Performs other duties as required/assigned by manager.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 1-2 years of relevant professional experience in Information Technology or related field.
  • Experience in implementing, training, supporting, and managing instructional and/or workplace technologies.
  • Experience in researching, identifying, and evaluating innovative solutions, services, and resources that align with strategy and business needs.
  • Technical skills with the ability to quickly adapt, understand, and engage with complex, cutting-edge, or emerging hardware and software solutions.
  • Knowledge of emerging trends and technologies.
  • Knowledge or experience in deploying best practices in applying procedures, tools, and methods to acquire, prototype, beta-test, analyze and evaluate innovative solutions, services, or resources.
  • Experience in facilitating communication and supportive relationships with vendors.
  • Experience in planning and coordinating meetings, trainings, or events.
  • Experience in providing high quality customer-centric service, end user support, documentation, training, and professional development.
  • Ability to take initiative, add value, remove barriers, solve problems and move multiple projects forward to successful completion using effective project management skills.
  • Exceptional communication, writing, and teamwork skills and abilities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES PREFERRED

  • Master's Degree and 3-5+ years of experience in higher education in instructional or emerging technologies.
  • Experience in instructional or learning experience design.
  • Experience in supervising and managing student assistants in higher education.
  • Experience with or certifications in audio/video workplace and classroom technologies.
  • Experience in change management and facilitating upgrades with enterprise applications.
  • Advanced skills in digital media development and production in emerging fields such as fabrication labs, makerspaces, and extended reality.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal office environment.  Some travel may be required.
