Summary: The Department of Psychology seeks an Affiliate Faculty (full time, 9-month). The successful candidate will teach 4 undergraduate classes per semester and will have primary teaching responsibility for courses in both Introductory Psychology and Developmental Psychology. This is a full-time (9-month), renewable non-tenure track position, with an initial one-year appointment. This position will start August 6, 2024.

Required Qualifications and Education:

  • Ph.D. in Psychology (ABD candidate will be considered with provision that the Ph.D. must be completed by December 2024).
  • Experience with undergraduate instruction.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, such as the ability to interact with others with respect, empathy, and cultural humility. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access. This could include experience using inclusive teaching practices; research relating to minoritized populations or social inequality; community-based outreach to minoritized and underserved communities; and other forms of DEI-infused teaching.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Track record of excellence in undergraduate instruction.
  • Experience engaging learners from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities: The position involves teaching four courses each semester of the academic year, including Introductory Psychology, and courses within the Developmental Psychology category of our major. There are no expectations for scholarship. We are particularly interested in receiving applications from candidates from underrepresented groups, and from candidates who have interest and/or experience in working with diverse student and community populations.

Department/College: The Psychology Department at Grand Valley State University represents a diverse and eclectic set of specialized interests that, together, characterize the broad discipline of psychology.  Our department of 40 full time faculty members is actively engaged in scholarship, and we offer a variety of high impact experiences for students through coursework and mentored research with faculty members.  Many of our faculty are engaged in community-based service and scholarship.  While the current position has no expectation of scholarship or research activity, numerous collaborative opportunities exist across a wide group of partners within the department, across campus, and in the community.
