Job Summary: 

Maintains and operates audio, video, broadcast, computer, and satellite equipment for television and radio.  Maintains television and radio transmitters, satellite, microwave, computer networks, and fiber optic system.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Maintains and operates audio, video, STL, computer and transmitter equipment for WGVU/WGVK-TV.
  • Maintains studio, computer. transmitter and related equipment for WGVU Radio
  • Maintains and operates satellite communication equipment.
  • Designs video, audio, and control systems and circuits.
  • Install and maintain desktop computer equipment, network servers and Cisco network switches.
  • Maintains knowledge of FCC rules, SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers) and ANSI (American National Standards Institute)
  • Maintains maintenance logs and other required records.
  • Performs engineer-in-charge duties for broadcast productions and business television events.
  • Supervise student employees.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Coordinate activities with clients and vendors to ensure timely completion of projects.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school graduate supplemented by two years of technical training, appropriate degree or certification.
  • Minimum of four years of broadcast, IT, or equivalent technical experience.  
  • Knowledge and experience working with FCC rules, SMPTE and ANSI standards.
  • Knowledge and experience working with IT, desktop PC’s, network servers and switches.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully maintain positive interpersonal relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully operate office equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully provide quality customer service.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully maintain satisfactory work performance and        attendance records.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully work independently, organize own work and coordinate work activities of others.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully design systems and circuits.
  • Willingness to work any shift, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • Ability to work under inclement weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of a satellite communication equipment.
  • Knowledge of computer operating systems, applications and computer networks.

Supervision Received:

Receives minimal supervision from a designated supervisor.  Much of the work is self-initiated.  Person is expected to function with considerable independence and apply appropriate policies and procedures within the assigned area of responsibility.

Supervision Exercised:

Hire, train, schedule and coordinate the work of student employees and may act as lead worker to PSS staff members within the department/unit/division.
